Small-Scale Farmers’ Preference Heterogeneity for Green Agriculture Policy Incentives Identified by Choice Experiment

چکیده
This study addresses differentiation among small-scale farmers’ preferences for green agriculture policy incentive mixes. Transforming modern to ecological fertilization and pest extermination practices is paramount in developing agriculture, but incentives aimed at stimulating adoption of deinsectization techniques are often challenged by those heterogeneous characteristics their consequent mixed preferences. We establish a model examining the interplay between (e.g., age, education level, family size, participation agricultural organization) combinations policies (i.e., subsidy, technical support, environmental propaganda, insurance) willingness participate fertilization/deinsectization, using sample 1032 Chinese farmers. By applying logit latent class regressions, we find that farming organization most important influencing Specifically, senior farmers tend accept an combination subsidy support; with higher levels prefer support propaganda; larger families insurance. Additionally, any reduces household’s preference insurance, subsidy. Based on these findings, typology small (including security, monetary, autonomy orientations) proposed, offering suggestions future optimization.

Modelling preference heterogeneity in stated choice data: an analysis for public goods generated by agriculture
Stated choice models based on the random utility framework are becoming increasingly popular in the applied economics literature. The need to account for respondents’ preference heterogeneity in such models has motivated researchers in agricultural, environmental, health and transport economics to apply random parameter logit and latent class models. In most of the published literature these mo...

متن کاملInference of Preference Heterogeneity from Choice Data
Suppose that an analyst observes inconsistent choices from a decision maker. Can the analyst determine whether this inconsistency arises from choice error (imperfect maximization of a single preference) or from preference heterogeneity (deliberate maximization of multiple preferences)? I model choice data as generated from context-dependent preferences, where contexts vary across observations, ...
متن کاملA data portrait of smallholder farmers An introduction to a dataset on small-scale agriculture
The Smallholder Farmers’ Dataportrait is a comprehensive, systematic and standardized data set on the profile of smallholder farmers across the world. It can generate an image on how small family farmers in both emerging and developing countries live their lives. It is about putting in numbers, the constraints they face, and the choices they make so that policies can be informed by evidence to ...
